About us Many of the leading European countries have increasingly begun to use their own energy resources – biofuels – for the production of renewable energy. Thus, they not only increase their energy independence, but also support the country's businesses and economy. Currently, the Lithuanian market of biofuel production and use is deservedly called one of the most developing economies, to which the country's power industry future is related. At present, biofuel in Lithuania contributes to about 14 percent of the centralised district heating energy, and in the future this volume will certainly grow. In accordance with the recommendations of the European Union and the National Energy Strategy, the applications of biofuel in the Lithuanian power industry will more than double by 2020. Currently, the network of boiler plants fuelled with biofuels is being actively developed: at the moment there are more than 200 of such boiler plants, and their total capacity is 500 MW. Lithuania has large biofuel reserves but until today, they have not been utilised properly. Their assimilation needs the active involvement of all participants of the biofuel market – land and forest owners, producers and power engineers – and their collaboration.
