Wood sawdust granules are a pure, natural and environmentally friendly renewable source of fuel. They are produced from de-barked conifer sawdust which is grinded, dried, pressed and moulded. Their size ranges from 6 to 8 mm. Granules are drier than firewood. Dried firewood humidity can range from 25 to 45 percent meanwhile the permissible humidity of granules shall not exceed 10 percent. Convenience of fuel consumption depends on fuel humidity. According to specialist calculations, wood sawdust granules are a fuel twice as calorific as firewood. Wood granules are more inflammable and their combustion results in far too less tars and ashes compared to firewood. Furthermore, their calorific value is much higher than that of firewood.

Currently, a lot of steam boilers intended for the use of granular fuel are manufactured. This is an automatic device with self-ignition and thermostatic controls which can be set for heating for a certain period of time. Consequently, fuel is economized whereas an optimal temperature is secured in the room. Moreover, these kinds of biofuel emit minimum quantities of smoke and do not cause any storage problems due to their compactibility.

Modern production equipment available in the company, sorted quality conifer sawdust and producers’ experience enable the achievement of maximum produce quality which is validated by the results of constantly performed granule tests. The findings of the most recent granule tests are presented below:

- ash-content per the working mass (CEN/TS 14775) – 0.45 %
- humidity quantity (CEN/TS 14774-3) – 3.98 %
- calorie quantity – 4436 kcal/kg
- calorific power of the working mass (GOST 147 (ISO 1928)) – 18.574 MJ/kg

Granules must be warehoused in a dry accommodation as moistened granules become puffy, more brittle and breakable. Therefore, our production is packed into moisture resistant bags of various sizes. Bagged granules can be stored outside under various conditions of the weather.
Granule packing:

• Bags of 10, 16 and 20 kg (one palette containing 1000 kg)
• Big bags containing 700-1000 kg.

The parameters indicating granule quality are the following:

1. Size of briquettes/granules influences the choice of the equipment for fuel transportation and feed into the combustion chamber. The size of fuel components also affects the combustion process itself. Fuel components of the same shape and size allowed the development of automatic fuel consumption for power purposes.

2. Roughness of briquettes/granules. The rough surface of fuel components (multi-edged, splintered, burred) decreases the reliability of the system of an automatic fuel feed device for the boiler. Existent burrs also increase dust emissions during the combustion.

3. Humidity makes influence on the power value of briquettes and granules, efficiency of the combustion process and the temperature achieved during the combustion process.

4. Ash-content is the most unfavourable factor within the heat supply sector of individual dwelling-houses. It is primarily associated with the augmentative necessity of a periodical removal of the formed ash. High ash-content also increases the formation possibility of scoria and hard sediment as well as quantities of dust discharges. Higher ash-content is permissible in large-scale power projects due to their better process of combustion and tailings management facilities (provided these are installed).

5. Power value. The higher this parameter, the fewer primal transportation and storage expenditures.
